For each person, school life will always have an impact on the future, this being the period of foundation and impressions, on which ideals of life are built. For us the past pupils of Loreto Convent Shillong, the Loreto tradition was and will continue to be the most influential source of inspiration- spirit ual and emotional, as well as moral and ethical. Twelve years of unwavering exposure to pure ideals of purity and of truth, has done much for the soul as well as the minds of the thousands that were fortunate recipients of learning in the most special institution of all.
For us, the founder members of LAAS, the figure of Sister Celine tailor fits the figure of a mentor and guiding force behind the motivation for the birth of LAAS. The formation of our association was long overdue, like a great idea that failed to see the light of day, but as destiny would have it, an urgent need to look up friends we grew up with, kept haunting many a Loreto Shillong past pupil. With Sister Celine coming back as Principal of the school, a dream slowly unfolded to reality- as she willingly encouraged the team with ideas and strategies for the beginning of a great reunion. It was then that friends from down memory lane took a pledge to bond and reunite, with one mind, mission and vision- to meet, to mingle, to empower and to act. The 6th of November 2004, will go down in history as the Red Letter day of this great Loreto Family connection, and we the alumnae owe this to our friend, philosopher and guide- the jolly and forever young Sister Celine.
In keeping with the spirit of friendship and sisterhood, and to further strengthen the bond of solidarity, a stage has been initiated to provide for the permanent exchange of ideas, views, opinions, suggestions and often to simply keeping in touch. A few past pupils took the lead in this mammoth task and took forward a dream that was shelved maybe for generations now, by initiating an association. From then on, there has been no turning back. From one step to another, the LAAS dream is taking greater heights and today we have gone from strength to strength, yet never lacking for want of a greater connection and collaboration, with those with whom we have not been in touch.
Through our endeavors, we will continue in our efforts to reach out and unite better with those of you who would like to participate in this great connection. We always welcome and solicit your esteemed and keen association with us. With time, our efforts will bear great fruits and together we will focus on ways to achieve the unachievable and to win the most trying and longest race that life challenges us with. We will in whatever way possible maintain the Loreto tradition and do what we can, to make life a worthwhile journey, not only for ourselves but more importantly for those with whom we meet, and have, not even half of what we have.
An insight to the mission of the Loreto vision
MARY WARD our founder had a revolutionary ‘mission with a vision’. Her innovative ideas surpassed the ordinary and the mundane. Her pioneering efforts changed the perception of education for women worldwide since 1611. Today it is due to the dedicated vocation of such ingenious individuals that women have had an opportunity to be empowered and self-sufficient. The Loreto Alumnae Association, Shillong (LAAS) envisions the same passion and aspiration that created the great Loreto family, thus promoting Mary Ward’s dreams and ambitions. Today we rekindle the same mission with dedicated zeal and enthusiasm. Through the Association we mission to ignite revolutionarize, reach out, develop and empower, first ourselves and then those that we meet in our every day life.
Our aspirations clinch:
- To unite and ignite, to reach out and to give, to share and to just be there
- To participate and to lend a helping hand, to develop, to mend and to make a difference
- To commit, and to give back, to help others from what we have received
With a humble beginning, Loreto Alumnae Association Shillong, will endeavor to achieve the impossible, to reach for the stars, and to do the things we ought to do, for our school, our state, our country and society as a whole. Let us all rise to this opportunity to immortalize the spirit of Loreto Convent Shillong, and let us be committed to giving, lending and sharing, both in times of joy as well as sorrow. May the flag of Loreto fly high in the sunny skies of East and West, North and South throughout the days of our lives.
LAAS!
