LORETO ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION SHILLONGMINUTES OF MEETING OF LAAS EXECUTIVE MEMBERS WITH THE GOVERNING BODY MEMBERS OF LORETO INSTITUTIONS IN INDIA
Dated : Saturday the 18th October 2008, 2.30 pm in the Catechism Room of Loreto Convent.
- The meeting started with a prayer from Mother Provincial, Sr Antoinette followed by an introduction from the Alumnae members. The principal of Loreto Convent School Shillong, Mrs. C Nongrum was also present.
- Mother Provincial expressed her appreciation for the Alumnae’s efforts and work done so far in getting networked and reoriented with all its members far and near for the Centenary Celebrations.
- Mother Provincial (Sr Antoinette) urged the Alumnae members and the school authorities to Co-ordinate, Co-operate and Work together for the success of the upcoming Centenary Celebrations. She herself apologized for any misunderstanding that had arisen between the School and LAAS.
- Mother Provincial suggested co-opting the Principal of Loreto Convent, Shillong, as a member of the Executive Committee of LAAS.
- There was a discussion on the Souvenir magazine to be released for the centenary and Mother Provincial suggested that Mrs. Esther Syiem is to be made Chief Editor of the Souvenir (to be released) as a major portion of the Souvenir work has already been covered by her and her team.
- It was also suggested that for the Souvenir more Donors could be obtained and lesser advertisements.
- To avoid confusion and create transparency, Sr Antoinette and other member sisters of the governing body suggested that a Centenary Fund Bank Account could be opened. Excess money (after Celebrations) could be used for Centenary Projects for society, educational purposes, employment, etc. They should be Community Based Need Projects. For operating the Centenary Fund, there could be 3 different signatories – a representative from the school, a second from LAAS, and a third representative from the Loreto Sisters community. This suggestion was readily accepted by all members present.
- The LAAS was given the Green Signal by the Governing body to go ahead with Fund Raising programs. A suggestion was put forward by Sr Moira, a sister member of the Governing Body that foreign funds in the form of donations could be transacted via the Calcutta Bank A/C and the funds could be transferred subsequently to the Shillong Centenary Fund A/C in order to be in line with permissions and regulations on transactions of foreign funds. Members from abroad should mention clearly that the transaction is meant for the Loreto Shillong, Centenary Fund A/C.
- Mother Provincial shared her thoughts on what an Alumnae Association should be. She stressed on the fact that we should draw strength from one another as each one of us have different talents and abilities to contribute to the Association. As an Association, we could inter-link with different Loreto Alumnae. She spoke on the importance of the upcoming 400 years celebration of Mary Ward. We should make Mary Ward’s ideals come alive.
- Mother Provincial reiterated that LAAS could be a relevant group for the people of Shillong through the Centenary and continue to work actively post Centenary Celebrations.
- There was an active, cordial and lively interaction with all members present and the governing body members. The meeting ended with tea and light refreshments.
The Date for the next meeting: Saturday the 8th of Nov 2008 at 2.30 PM in the school premises.
